3 students drown after bunking class to take a dip in the Damodar river



According to authorities, three class 10 students who bunked class and went to take a dip in the Damodar river in West Bengal's Bankura district drowned.

On Tuesday, eight children from a school in the MAMC neighbourhood of Durgapur skipped class and walked to the Birbhanpur ghat of the Durgapur barrage on the Damodar river, according to them.



One of them immediately entered the river and started to drown. Two more entered the water to save him when they saw it, but they soon began to drown as well. Locals came there to report the issue to the Barjora police station.

The search was suspended that evening, and it resumed on Wednesday. The three bodies were discovered in the river at 11 a.m.
