Guillermo Söhnlein, a co-founder of OceanGate Expeditions, declared his goal to transport 1,000 people to Venus, frequently referred to as Earth's sister planet, by the year 2050. The announcement comes as the corporation is under investigation for the implosion of the "Titan" submersible, which was on an expedition to the Titanic shipwreck in the deep ocean and killed five people.
The submersible vanished on June 18, and the US Coast Guards declared on June 22 that they had located the wreckage after verifying reports of oxygen running low.
