Jaguar's once-car-heavy portfolio has quickly transitioned toward crossovers in recent years, with the XF now serving as the brand's flagship sedan. Until they reintroduce the XJ, which will most likely be an electric vehicle. The Jaguar XF has all it takes to be the car of the month and is one hell of a style statement.
Jaguar may be going toward electrification and producing more SUVs, but the XF sedan retains its attractive appearance and enjoyable driving dynamics. Despite competing against many desirable options, the Jaguar XF manages to maintain and showcase the brand's uniqueness. Its athletic handling and smooth ride are suitable for both sporty and luxurious purposes.
The interior of the XF possesses much of the trappings of high society, being thoughtfully set out, pleasingly large, and including several unique amenities. However, Jaguar's generally opulent presentation is hampered by subpar leather quality and restricted basic equipment. It's a theatrical event to witness the rotary shifter knob rise from the centre console and the outboard air vents open when you turn on the XF.
One of the XF's best features is its interior size. The way two tall adults sit low in proportion to a high window line makes them feel cocooned, yet there's actually more leg room than in the cars that compete with the XF. There is also ample cargo capacity in the back to allow you to go on extended trips without difficulty.
The 1999cc turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine in the Jaguar XF produces 177bhp and 430Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces 237bhp and 340Nm of torque. Both engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels.
The base suspension and the optional adaptive set-up, termed Adaptive Dynamics, provide a stiff ride around town, but the XF is comfortable at greater speeds. When driving the XF fast along a winding road, the tyres provide sufficient of grip, giving you plenty of confidence. Overall, this is a driver's car, and you'll have a fantastic time behind the wheel.
