Delhi government approves increase in auto and taxi fares

|THE DEN|

According to an official statement released on Friday, the Delhi government has approved an increase in auto-rickshaw and taxi rates, citing the rise in CNG costs. A government official with knowledge of the situation said that the revised rates will become effective following the release of an official announcement in the ensuing weeks.

The meter-down (minimum) fee for vehicles will be Rs 30 for the first 1.5 km instead of the current Rs25, per modification. From that point forward, each kilometre of the trip will cost 11 instead of the current 9.50. Similar to this, the meter-down fee for the first km in both AC and non-AC taxis has raised from the previous 25 to 40. The cost per kilometre for non-AC taxis will increase from the current 14 to 17, while the cost per kilometre for AC taxis will increase from 16 to 20.

Additionally, the government has approved an increase in the excess luggage fees for taxis (from Rs10 to Rs15) and cars (from Rs7.5 to Rs10). Taxis and cars continue to charge an additional 25% of the total fare for nighttime service.
