The Gurajat Mehsana district is 25 kilometres away from the Modhera village, and Gandhinagar, the state capital, is around 100 km away. The settlement, which is situated on the banks of the Pushpavati river in the state, spans a total area of about 2,436 hectares. It will be the first solar-powered village in the nation.
To generate electricity, nearly 1,300 homes in the hamlet have 1kW rooftop solar systems installed. The village also includes a ground-mounted solar power plant. Each of these solar arrays is connected to a battery energy storage system (BESS).
The village will be powered during the day by solar panels, and in the evening, the homes will be powered by BESS, India's first grid-connected megawatt-hour scale battery energy storage system.
The state allocated 12 hectares of land for the project, and both the federal and state governments contributed more than 80 crores in two phases.
Modhera will become the first Indian community to generate net renewable energy as a result of the project, according to the Gujarati government, illustrating how renewable energy can empower people at the local level. With this change, residents of the community might save 60% to 100% on their electricity costs.
