Illuminati

|THE DEN|

Historically, the term Illuminati refers to the Bavarian Illuminati organization, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1, 1776, and declared to oppose religious influence and the abuse of state power. One of their slogans is: "We must put an end to the machinations of the magistrates, control them without dominating them." It existed only 20 years after it was dissolved in 1785.

Conspiracy theorists believe that it has regrouped and is secretly trying to establish a new world order. And such illustrious figures as Obama or Beyoncé are in these ranks is because it is a (supposedly) secret organization made up of an exclusive elite that strives for world domination.

Perhaps you are familiar with its symbol: a kind of pyramid with an all-seeing eye at the top, which some say represents the god Horus and others simply the omniscience of the Christian god. Above it is the motto "Annuit coeptis" ( "favors [our] undertakings"), which actually is one of two mottos on the reverse side of the Great Seal of the United States. Pentagrams and drawings of demons are also commonly associated with Illuminati, although their original symbol was Athena's little owl.
