Pakistan, currently facing an onslaught of inflation and the subsequent financial crisis, is now on the way to an additional economic crunch as the country's National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) hiked the price of electricity by 1.68 Pakistani Rupees per unit. Notably, the development comes even as other commodities like petrol, diesel, and sugar in Pakistan continued to become more expensive for the citizens. It forced the Imran Khan-led government on Wednesday to announce the “country's biggest-ever” subsidy package worth ₹120 billion, a move deemed desperate by opposition leaders.
