Japan stops foreigners in suspected racial profiling, The U.S.

|Shiksha Dev|THE DEN|

On Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo warned that the Embassy has received reports of foreigners being stopped and searched in "suspected racial profiling incidents."

An unusual tweet came a week after Japan closed its borders to nearly all travelers because of an early outbreak of the omicron coronavirus. This step was rigid even compared to the rest of the world.

Also, U.S. citizens should carry their immigration documents and contact consular authorities should they be detained.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo told Reuters that the embassy had nothing further to add. A Japanese government spokesperson told Reuters that policing was not profiling.

We asked the Japanese Embassy in Washington for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
