Indian and Russian leaders enjoy a good relationship and important documents will be signed at the annual bilateral summit, S Jaishankar and Sergey Lavrov said on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met ahead of a bilateral meeting, followed by the maiden India-Russia 2+2 dialogue between defence and foreign ministers.
Both Rajnath Singh and Sergei Shoigu met separately, and they co-chaired a meeting of the inter-government commission on military-technical cooperation.
"The India-Russia Summit is a unique event for us. Modi and Putin are highly trusted and respected leaders. In response to the [pandemic], the annual India-Russia summit takes place after a gap of two years. We are looking forward to some very significant outcomes from the summit,” Jaishankar said in televised opening remarks.
