|THE DEN|
What if you get to see magic and heist both altogether? Will be a jackpot, right? Well, Now You See Me is that jackpot certainly. The series of two parts with loads of secret and shocking revelations, indeed has made its mark in our hearts.
“The closer you look, the less you see”
The Plot
Four small-time magicians are brought together by an anonymous person. A year later they come back as the four horsemen, big time stage illusionist; who pull off bank heists during their performances and leave their audiences swimming in that cash. FBI Agent Dylan Rhodes and Interpol agent Alma Dray investigate the case to solve mysteries behind the heists with the insights of professional illusion exposer Thaddeus Bradley, But fails because “The closer they were looking, the less they were actually watching”
The Four Horsemen
Jesse Eisenberg AKA J. Daniel Atlas “Come in close, because the more you think you see, the easier it'll be to fool you”
J.Daniel Atlas, the leader of four horsemen and an arrogant illusionist. He's an excellent magician and is someone with perhaps the most varied skills as a magician; escapologist, and sleight of hand, as well as cardistry. However, he is very self-aware of how good he is and therefore always stays very confident. Though he tends to specialize in bigger illusions, involving much more set up and special effects.
Woody Harrelson AKA Merritt McKinney
Merritt is first introduced by the scene of New Orleans where he was hypnotizing a woman while her husband was watching. Merrit McKinny is sort of a funny character who is highly skilled in mentalism, hypnosis and a self proclaimed psychic. He is the eldest among all the horsemen. Merritt has a twin brother named Chase McKinney. Apparently Chase disappeared with all of Merritt's money. However Chase makes his appearance in Now You See Me 2.
Isla Fisher AKA Henley Reeves
Stage magician, Henley Reeves is seems to be a very talented magician, and a fantastic escape artist. Henley was used to be the assistant to J. Daniel Atlas. However, later She quits working with him due to non-stop fights. Nevertheless after appearing in Now You See Me, she left the Series where according to the movie after waiting over a year for further instruction, she grew tired of waiting and contacted the Eye to ask if she could leave the Four Horsemen.
Dave Franco AKA Jack Wilder
“Nothing is ever locked”
A young man full of energy who is ready to make a mark in the world, Jack Wilder is indeed among favourites of many. He is a skilled pick-pocket and a street magician, and specializes in picking locks, sleight of hand, and imitating voices. He is capable of throwing cards with force. Later, he was also taught hypnotism by Merritt McKinney. Also J. Daniel Atlas was a huge inspiration for him. Jack was first seen on a ferry boat where he stole a man’s wallet with brilliancy.
Lizzy Caplan AKA Lula May
Lula joins the eye in Now You See Me 2 as a replacement of fourth horsemen ‘Henley Reeves’. She is shown to have a very good sense of humor and indeed a well-rounded magician; who is a master of misdirection by faking injuries and death. She can manipulate cards decently and seemingly conjure things out of nowhere.
The Fifth Horseman
Mark Ruffalo AKA Dylan Rhodes
His revelation perhaps twisted the whole movie and left audience’s in shock. Dylan Rhodes played a very tricky role, whereas an F.B.I. agent he spends all of the movie chasing down the group in a bid to hunt them down and doesn't seem to be willing to accept magic, and while in the end he reveals that he is not only the mastermind behind the Horsemen's shows, but also in fact the fifth Horseman and seemed to be welcoming all the horsemen into The Eye.
The Grandmaster of the Eye
Morgan Freeman AKA Thaddeus Bradley
“An eye for an eye"
Well if you think that Dylan was the tricky character then we have Thaddeus Bradley here; who was first shown as a former magician who now makes a living by revealing the secrets behind other magicians' tricks. In the first part of the movie Thaddeus was put in jail for robbery, and accusations of being the fifth member of the Horsemen by Dylan Rhodes. But he was innocent and later discovered Dylan was actually taking revenge for his dad’s death. He was portrayed as a villain in the whole movie until we discovered that he was actually the leader of the eye in the end of Now You See Me 2.
Now You See Me 2 left us into more secrets as in the end Bradley directs Rhodes and the Horsemen to a secret chamber accessible through a massive spiral staircase behind a curtain that gives us hints of the third part of NYSM which will be coming probably in 2022 with surely a lot more puzzles since “the closer we look, the less we see”
