People arriving in the UK from abroad will now also have to take a PCR test and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

It comes after 14 cases of the new variant were detected in the UK.

On Monday the government announced a major expansion of the booster jab rollout as part of efforts to help stop a potential wave of infections. They are to be offered to all over-18s in the UK, while children aged 12 to 15 will be invited for a second jab. Johnson said he hopes to be able to lift the restrictions and will review them in three weeks. He also said he believes this Christmas will be much closer to normal than last year’s. But he warned citizens to follow restrictions as to be safe until scientists study the new mutation of the virus.
