'Privacy' of documents regarding Capitol riots on Jan 6 rejects by US court

The US appeals court ruled on Thursday that former president Donald Trump cannot prevent White House records from being released related to the attack on the Capitol on January 6.

The appeals court agreed with a lower court decision that President Joe Biden may waive executive privilege on the documents to enable them to be given to a Congressional panel investigating the Trump supporters' violence.

A former president, Trump, is accused of fomenting the attack against the US Congress and wanted to keep the documents and phone records that might be related to the attack under wraps.

However, the court said that Biden's judgment had more weight in this case.

In its ruling, the appeals court stated that former presidents' rights are equal to those of incumbents.

In this case, President Biden, as head of the executive branch, found that Congress had an urgent need for these documents, and that their release was in the best interests of the nation.
