The 'Summit for Democracy' includes a surprising number of countries

The State Department warns Pakistan has a number of serious human rights problems, such as "extrajudicial killings" and "forced disappearances by the government or its agents," "political prisoners," "extreme restrictions on religious freedoms," and "person trafficking."

Nevertheless, Pakistan will join roughly 110 other countries on Thursday in a two-day summit, convened by President Biden, intended to rally the nations of the world against authoritarian forces.

Despite the White House's strong denial that such a division exists, the administration has certainly caused tensions and anger from a variety of nations, and highlighted the fact that the globe is not binary. Some invitees are undisputed democratic stalwarts, while some omitted are clearly authoritarian, but many countries fall into a gray zone.
