The coronavirus was detected in former US President Donald Trump's body days before his maiden presidential debate against challenger Joe Biden last year, according to a new book written by Meadows, his then-chief of staff. According to The Guardian, a UK newspaper that obtained an advance copy of Meadows' memoir The Chief's Chief, it was discovered that Trump had tested positive for Covid-19 three days before the debate between Biden and Trump on September 29, 2020. Initially, the upcoming book describes, symptoms were mild and were taken as a cold. In addition, Meadows wrote that a positive test for Covid-19 was rapidly followed by a negative shortly before the presidential debate.

President Trump announced on Twitter on October 2 that he and his wife had tested positive for COVID-19. However, the report suggested that Trump fell seriously ill after passing the test, as he was flown to the presidential facility at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center a day later. Trump was treated intensively at the medical center for three nights.

Apparently, Meadows got the positive news just as Trump left the White House for a rally in Pennsylvania the following day. The latest developments in the debate have caused fresh concerns about the safety of attendees.

As a result, more concerns are being raised about the safety risks attendees of the debate may face. Assuming the claims are true, this would indicate that the Trump administration, which has already suffered criticism for nonchalance in managing the pandemic, did not take the virus seriously.

Additionally, Trump's campaign did not let the debate organizers know about the positive test. "I didn't want to alarm the public," Meadows wrote in the book explaining why he allowed Trump to continue with his schedule after the second, negative test.

Meanwhile, the former President has denied the allegations. During a statement issued on Wednesday, Trump claimed that "the story that I had Covid prior to, or during, the first debate is Fake News. As it turns out, I actually did not have Covid prior to the debate."
