|THE DEN|
If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story.
An eloquent expression of a bad heartbreak and billions of dollars in wealth, White Collar take you on the journey of a conman from heartbreak with Kate to romance with Sara, friendship with Alex to becoming family with Mozzie & Peter, from submarines to islands, it deals with the best of scams in the most sophisticated manner if you ignore jumping off a building with a parachute in the middle of Wall Street while FBI is conducting a raid and you are locked in the security room. Most of all, it goes through a professional, mutually respectful relation between a FBI agent and his conman CI, which spreads to the conman’s friend and the agent’s wife and all of their past.
Neal Caffrey
I’ll admit I’ve done a lot of things that I am not proud of, No - no, that’s not true, I am proud of most of them.
Neal Caffrey is a conman around whom the show revolves. He is exquisite in everything he does, but the only problem is, he has a taste for cons and with a friend like Mozzie, that is never helpful. Neal is one of the most brilliant minds and can easily con his way into anywhere. Along with that he has extraordinary knowledge and talent whether it is forgeries of bonds and paintings or cracking the most uncrackable safes. He is an all rounder who could have been many things or anything he wanted but when it comes to conmen, he is the best.
Peter Burke
Neal Caffrey: Peter, mi casa is su casa.
Peter Burke: Su casa is not even su casa.
Peter Burke is an extraordinary FBI agent with an extraordinary arrest rate. He is the best when it comes to White Collar division of the FBI and gets promoted to ASAC during the course of the show. He is even offered to run the DC White Collar division of FBI. He is happily married and is like a guardian angel to Neal, although he is the one who was only able to arrest Neal both the times. He is infatuated with Neal’s skills and agrees to take him as his CI on an anklet. He is as honourable as they come and never backs down from a sacrifice whether it's for his team or for Neal. Even when he has suspicions that Neal is committing a fraud, he does not stop it until he can catch Neal in the act, which Neal never does get caught with because he is Neal.
Elizabeth Burke
Elizabeth: Another all nighter?
Peter: I married a perceptive woman.
Elizabeth: I married a predictable man.
Elizabeth Burke is the sweetest wife anyone can expect, she is supportive, independent, caring, understanding and really intelligent and loyal. When Peter goes deep into investigating Neal, she is the one who can bring him back or when Peter is in danger, she doesn’t refrain from telling Neal to lie to Peter in order to keep him safe. She even never backs down to introduce undercover FBI agents to gangsters in the art world she is connected to. She is the one that gives the show a family whether it is to Sara, Mozzie, Peter or Neal.
Sara Ellis
Neal : I love how we’re always on the same page. Sara : Same page ? We’re not reading the same book ! We’re not even in the same library !
Sara Ellis works for Sterling-Bosch Insurance and recovers insured assets for them. She really hates Neal because she was unable to recover a Dega painting that Neal stole and testified in court against him when Peter initially catches him. Later, as Peter’s CI, Sara gets to work with Neal and actually falls for him. They have their break ups and patch ups, but they have their most fun running FBI sponsored cons. She leaves in the final season for the UK after a fake proposal on the top of Times Square building by Neal as a part of a con. She brought a sense of glamour and romance that the show needed.
Mozzie, Theodore etc
Don’t think this is my only safe house. One of many. I call it Tuesday. (Burke: Why?) Mozzie: because I’m usually here on Wednesdays.
Mozzie, Havisham, Theodore etc, he did not reveal his actual name until the last episode of the last season. He is the brains behind all the cons with all the resources and all the links. Considering himself to be the best in his field, he joins Neal when Neal defeats him to find the queen card con repeatedly, he knew that Neal was better than him and he never left his side until Neal’s last con where he killed himself and disappeared to get free of the FBI.
Matthew Keller
Keller : The little guy already tried to kill me. Mozzie : Is there anyone in the room you haven’t tried to kill ? Keller : You. Yet. But you’re starting to cross my mind Mozzie.
Keller is the blue collar version of Neal. He is every bit as good but he prefers to save as much time as he can by killing instead of conning. He has a taste for blood and a respectable rivalry with Neal but when he assumes that Neal has looted a treasure, he is not one to refrain from extortion, kidnapping or even murder. He is extremely talented, well connected and intelligent. Other than his violence, he is just another Caffrey.
Alex Hunter
Neal Caffrey : You know, I did see the inside of a cell in Bulgaria once. Alex Hunter : So you've experienced the unpleasantness of a Balkan prison firsthand. Neal Caffrey : Well, actually, I was breaking someone out, but I can extrapolate from that. It was a time of political unrest. The monarchy had fallen. The Czar was deposed. Alex Hunter : You were rescuing a deposed Czar? Neal Caffrey : Actually, a Czar’s wife. Alex Hunter : A deposed Czarina? Neal Caffrey : A deposed Czarina's handmaid. What? She had a lead on the Dabene treasure in the Karlovo Valley. You'd do the same thing.
Alex Hunter : Yeah, right.
Alex Hunter was a cat burglar with extraordinary skills and could get anything she wanted and play role she wanted. Her grandfather was tha last man alive on a Nazi U-boat carrying treasure and she was the only one who knew the password required to open the treasure before the dynamite exploded. She had a great passion for cons and could not stay in one place. She needed to travel the world and con everywhere. She brought more of friendship than romance to the series.
