A World War II aircraft bomb exploded at a construction site near Munich train station in Germany on Wednesday, injuring four people and disrupting train services. Bavarian state authorities said the 250kg bomb was found while the site was being drilled to build a tunnel.

Unexploded bombs were regularly found in Germany by more than 2,000 tons of bombs and ammunition each year 76 years after the war and were often defused or destroyed by experts in controlled explosions.

Allied warplanes dropped nearly 1.5 million tons of bombs on the Nazi-era country, killing 600,000 people. Authorities estimate that 15% of the bombs did not explode.
