Karnataka (Nale Ba)
Nale Ba is a popular folk legend that features prominently in
areas across Karnataka, India. This dates back to the 1990s when
news spread that a witch would visit random houses in Karnataka
and knock on the door and she would then call men inside in the
voice of their relatives, especially their mothers. The innocent and
unsuspecting man would open the door and die within the next 24
hours
Someone remarked that writing Nale ba ("Come tomorrow" in
Kannada, the local language) on the front door of the house
caused the witch to walk away when she got to the door and saw
the inscription. It has become a tradition in many families to
write this down to ward off the evil spirit. This eventually led to
April 1st being known as Nale Ba Day among the locals. It also
inspired the Bollywood movie 'Stree'
