‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
From: A Night At The Opera (1975) How could it be otherwise, we begin this list with one of the
greatest songs of all time. The six-minute epic “Bohemian
Rhapsody,” written by Freddie Mercury is a masterpiece of
modern music. The British band Queen blasted the classic rock
structure and managed to pack six songs into one. I mean, It
has opera parts. cascades of voices. And a cappella
introduction. References to Galileo and Figaro. And the guitar
solo has a life of its own.
Moreover, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the only song to have made
it to Christmas No.1 twice. It first topped the Christmas charts
in 1975 and got there again 16 years later, after Mercury’s
death. And in December 2018 it was officially recognized as the
most-streamed song from the 20th Century.
Queen is indeed one of the most famous English bands in
history. Their lyrics and musical compositions have made this
group one of the greatest references in British rock. So much so
that 50 years later their magic lives on and will last forever
because we can still be moved just by listening to classics like
'we will rock you', ‘another one bites the dust', 'love of my life', 'i
want to break free' or simply any of their songs.
